Would You Pay $200 To See A PERFECT CIRCLE?
December 29, 2010The Pulse Of Radio reports: Would you pay more than $200 to see A PERFECT CIRCLE in concert? According to The Associated Press, Los Angeles bartender Michael Nemcik did, but says that's it for him. Nemcik explained, "It's just getting too expensive. I'm a little more hesitant on spending money than I used to be."
High prices kept many fans away from shows in 2010, which was largely considered a disastrous year for the concert industry. In the wake of that, promoters say they plan to make shows more affordable in the new year, adding that they'll also try to sell more T-shirts and other merchandise to make up for lost revenue.
Dozens of concerts were canceled last summer, usually the industry's busiest season, because ticket prices were too high during a sluggish economy and fans elected to stay home.
The shows that did go on often gave away seats at the last minute at rock-bottom prices, some as low as under $10.
Bands like ZZ TOP plan to keep ticket prices below the 2010 average of $55 next year, but not every act is doing its part. Shows by pop behemoths like LADY GAGA and JUSTIN BIEBER will remain expensive. Even acts past their prime, like CHEAP TRICK, are selling tickets for next year's shows for $80 or more.
