WHITESNAKE: 'Gold Series' Compilation To Feature Unreleased Material, COVERDALE/PAGE Outtake

May 30, 2005

WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale is currently working with his former record label, Geffen Records, on putting together a "gold series" compilation of the band's musical highlights and some previously unreleased material, which may include a COVERDALE/PAGE album outtake entitled "Saccharine".

In a recent interview with Doug Podell of Detroit's WRIF 101.1 FM, Coverdale stated, "I actually just e-mailed a mutual acquaintance — with Jimmy [Page] just being in New York recently, and we missed each other — but I e-mailed a mutual friend of ours, because we're working on putting a kind of Geffen 'gold' series. For the first time in 13 years, I've actually spoken and met with people who run Geffen Records now, and we're working together to put in some good compilation stuff and some previously unreleased stuff. Anyway, there's one particular song called 'Saccharine', which both Jimmy and I were disappointed that it didn't make it onto the COVERDALE/PAGE album. But right now, I'm still waiting to hear if it's cool with him, because he might have ideas for it, too. And as we had a 50/50 relationship, there's gotta be mutual respect. If he doesn't want that, that's fine by me. I've certainly got other unreleased stuff."

WHITESNAKE are scheduled to release a new DVD, "The Rock & Roll, Rhythm & Blues Show", in Japan on August 17. The set, which was recorded last October at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, will be released in two separate versions: a regular DVD edition and a limited-edition DVD featuring a bonus CD recorded at the same performance. U.S. and European release dates have yet to be confirmed.

The COVERDALE/PAGE self-titled debut was released in 1993 and registered impressive sales initially, peaking at No. 5 in the U.S. and eventually going platinum.
