Video: MEGADETH Performs New Song 'The Threat Is Real' Live For First Time

February 24, 2016

MEGADETH performed the song "The Threat Is Real" live for the first time last night (Tuesday, February 23) during the band's concert at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado. You can now watch fan-filmed video footage of the performance below.

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine recently stated about "The Threat Is Real": "Oddly enough, I'd had a guy tell me that he thought that if anybody could unite Middle Eastern fans of music with Western Music that I probably had as good a chance as anybody, probably, if not more so. And I didn't know how to take that, 'cause I was very confused. But I do know that MEGADETH has a lot of Arabian-style solos, a lot of minor-style solos, and that kind of gives people that classical, Spanish, Arabian kind of flair, which appeals to people. But we've never really addressed anything [lyrically] in the Middle East, other than in 'Holy Wars', when I talked about the holy war that was going on over there; nothing else really addressed the issue over there. 'The Threat Is Real' is talking kind of about how what's going on over there now is slowly infiltrating the West, with all the lone wolves and everything that's going on. You don't know if someone's knocking on the door if it's the Messiah or if a mass murderer; you just don't even know."

"The Threat Is Real" is taken from MEGADETH's latest album, "Dystopia", which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200, having shifted 49,000 equivalent album units in the week ending January 28.

In terms of pure album sales, "Dystopia" opened with 48,000 copies, marking MEGADETH's highest-charting album since 1992's "Countdown To Extinction" debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the chart dated August 1 of that year. "Dystopia" also logged the group's best sales week since 2007, when "United Abominations" landed at No. 8 with first-week sales of 54,000.

In addition to Mustaine, MEGADETH's current lineup includes longtime bassist David Ellefson, LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler and Brazilian guitarist Kiko Loureiro, best known for his work with ANGRA.
