VAN HALEN, METALLICA Get Charitable

September 30, 2004

VAN HALEN and METALLICA are among the artists who have donated items to the upcoming Darrell Russell Memorial Auction, set to be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Hospitality Village at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif.

The auction, which will feature both silent and live formats, will entirely benefit the Darrell Russell Memorial Fund, established after NHRA drag racer Darrell Russell's untimely death this summer during a high-speed accident in St. Louis.

VAN HALEN's contribution came in the form of an autographed guitar, according to NHRA driver Ron Capps. As for METALLICA, "they're going to donate something as well," Capps writes on ESPN.com. "I'm not sure what it is yet, but they tell me it will be very cool."
