VAN HALEN Book Author Was Inspired By MORBID ANGEL Guitarist

The Toronto Star recently interviewed writer Ian Christe (author of "Sound of the Beast" and "Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga", and host on Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack and Buzzsaw) about VAN HALEN's current arena tour with David Lee Roth.

According to Christe, the book on America's most popular hard rock band came from a more extreme source of inspiration.

Christe had been a fan through the Roth years but his interest dwindled during Hagar's tenure on the microphone, and after 1999 he'd stopped paying attention altogether until an interview with MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth turned into an hour-long rave.

"He talked my ear off for an hour solely about Eddie Van Halen," Christe recalls. "I hadn't really thought about them in awhile. I was into them when I was younger but I'd totally forgotten about it. And here was this die-hard, evil, Satanic death-metal guy just freaking out about the genius of Eddie Van Halen. So I went back and got into the music again."

On the return of Roth to the VAN HALEN fold:

"They've been trying to do this since 1996. This has been the longest foreplay in rock-reunion history...I went through two years of working on the book with no expectations at all that any of this would ever happen."

Published by John Wiley & Sons, "Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga" is reaping massive applause and glowing reviews, including a full-page Village Voice rave under the headline "Van Halen Reunites — Just in Time for Their Excellent Unauthorized Bio."
