U.P.O. Guitarist Diagnosed With Brain Tumor

November 16, 2004

U.P.O. guitarist Chris Weber, a former bandmate of GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose from from his pre-GN'R group, HOLLYWOOD ROSE, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Weber is scheduled to go in for brain surgery on Wednesday, November 17, according to a posting on the group's web site.

"After a show in October, Chris suffered a seizure and he had to be rushed to a hospital in L.A. for treatment," the posting reveals. "Soon after, C. A. T. scans and MRIs were taken it was found that he had a brain tumor! The type of tumor is called 'meningioma,' which, in 80 percent of the cases have been cured...

"Please feel free to write in and send Chris your best wishes and prayers. As he looks forward to a speedy recovery, he would like to thank everyone who has sent in support both by e-mail as well as the upo fan mail P.O. Box. We will keep you posted on his progress.

You can send mail to U.P.O., P.O. Box 38814, Los Angeles, CA 90038, or send an e-mail to [email protected] (or simply through the 'Community Section' of this site!)"

U.P.O. will play one more show in Phoenix, AZ this weekend without Chris and then will be taking a break until further notice.

Weber had sued Axl Rose in 1998 claiming that he co-wrote two GUNS N' ROSES songs he was not credited for, "Shadow of Your Love" and "Back Off Bitch". Weber and Rose played together in a band called ROSE in 1983. Izzy Stradlin joined the group a short time later and the name was changed to HOLLYWOOD ROSE. They split up not long after with Rose going on to front the band L.A. GUNS and eventually GUNS N' ROSES.
