THERAPY? Explain Cancellation Of Turkish Dates

Ireland's THERAPY? have issued a full statement explaining their decision to cancel their previously announced dates in Turkey. It reads as follows:

"It is with great regret that THERAPY? must announce that we will not be appearing in Turkey this coming weekend, April 16/17 as advertised locally.

"These dates were arranged as replacements for the two shows we had originally planned for March. Those initial shows were cancelled/postponed (by us) in order to allow the Promoter extra time in which he was to fulfill his contractual obligations and pay the monies as stipulated in the Contract.

"It is normal practice within this business for 50% of the agreed fees to be paid to the Agent as a deposit, one month prior to the Concert in question. In this instance when the Promoter had, with less than 2 days to go, not paid any of his deposit we agreed to allow the shows to be postponed rather than cancelling them outright.

"Our aim then was to allow the Promoter more time to get his financial affairs in order. However, when last week, and once again with less than a week to go before we were due to depart for Turkey, as he had still not paid any more of the fee or deposit it was decided that he could no longer be trusted.

"Agreements and Contracts between Artists/bands and Promoters are very much based on trust and when that trust is betrayed by either party it is very difficult for the relationship to continue. In this instance much was promised but very little delivered and never on time.

"In more than 13 years of performing this is the very first time that we had to take a decision such as this. To those of you who are disappointed/angry/sorry for our non appearance we can only say that we very much share your disappointment/anger/sorrow. We played in Turkey some years ago and had a great time — great gigs — great people.

"We would hope that when you think about this you will understand why we took this decision. We would also hope that when we find a Promoter in Turkey who we think will keep his word then we will be back sooner rather than later."
