THE ALIEN BLAKK: In Mixing Mode

THE ALIEN BLAKK, the band led by guitarist/producer Joshua Craig, is currently mixing its sophomore album, "Bekoming", with Glen Robinson (VOIVOD, ANNIHILATOR) for a tentative late 2009 release. The CD will feature guest appearances Deron Miller (CKY),Eric A.K. (FLOTSAM AND JETSAM),Kevin Talley (DAATH),Donnie Hamby (DOUBLE DRIVE) as well as contributions from the band's current lineup, which includes David Ellefson (bass; MEGADETH),Craig Nielsen (drums; FLOTSAM AND JETSAM) and Joshua Craig.

Commented Craig, "I have received over two dozen mixes from Glen and all have very outgoing and killer qualities. I would cite the mix as similar to a 'Death Magnetic' [METALLICA] style. Very loud, very aggressive and very raw. The mix has pushed the record to where it needed to get to in terms of sonic qualities and frequency-wise. There are over 100 tracks on most songs, so eccentric, yes. The most auspicious endeavor I have ever been part of, without a doubt. All music was recorded dry and no effects were used except a wah in a couple of spots on the bass and guitar. Dave wails on a Cliff [Burton]-inspired wah solo at the end of 'Jigsaw', and it's really slamming! The ambient stuff is way out there as well ('Psychadehlia'). Some of the music is tuned to a low F, which is lower than an eight-string guitar or five-string dropped bass. Dave and I are next to each other, but the separation is clean and concise. Also found out that there is way too much music for one CD. Much more than 78 minutes worth, so I'm not quite sure what will get placed aside initially etc. I guess that happens when you have a seven-minute improv at the end of 'Snowblind'! There are a couple of straight-ahead tunes on here, so it is not gonna steamroll the entire time. You need to breathe sometimes. I am proud of the less heavy just as much as the total brutal."
