THANATOS: Early Albums To Be Reissued As Limited-Edition Box Set

September 22, 2006

Long-running Dutch death/thrash metal band THANATOS have posted the following message on their official web site:

"Some cool news for a change! Chinese label Area Death Productions have approached us to re-release the first three THANATOS albums as a limited-edition collector's box set! The box set will contain three double-CDs, including loads of unreleased stuff including live stuff and rehearsals from the Eighties (!),as well as a t-shirt, poster, sticker, postcard, whatever! One of the most important things though is that the 'Angelic Encounters' album will be re-mixed for this release, so hopefully we can create a better sound than the original version. The three double discs will also be available separately, but the complete box set is the real shi-aat of course! We'll be offering a limited number of box sets through our website later this year. The box set is expected to be released before the end of this year. Meanwhile a few labels have shown interest in our new material, but we haven't signed any deal yet...

"In other news, THANATOS drummer Yuri [Rinkel] (Xul) is a permanent member of Mesopotamian metalband MELECHESH now, whilst bass player Marco [de Bruin] is helping out during their live shows. Guitarist/vocalist Stephan [Gebédi] has joined reformed Dutch thrash pioneers SECOND HELL for vocal duties. SECOND HELL's present lineup also includes former THANATOS guitarists Mark Staffhorst and Erwin de Brouwer."

THANATOS recently suspended the recording sessions for its fifth full-length album, "Justified Genocide", at Excess studios in Rotterdam, Holland after the group's record label, Greece's Black Lotus Records, announced that it was closing its doors. Three songs from earlier sessions are currently being used as a promo CD to generate interest from new labels. One of the new songs, a rough mix of "March of the Infidels", can be heard at www.myspace.com/thanatos666.

THANATOS's new album is scheduled to feature nine or 10 songs, including "They Feed On Fear", "The Devil's Triangle", "March of the Infidels", "Upwards Spritual Evolution" and "The Netherworld". The artwork will be handled by German artist Timo Wuerz.

THANATOS' fourth CD, "Undead. Unholy. Divine" (2004),was produced by Hans Pieters and the band at Excess and was mastered by Attie Bauw (JUDAS PRIEST, SCORPIONS, GOREFEST).
