TED NUGENT Calls Illinois Residents 'Spineless Wimps'

August 13, 2003

TED NUGENT took the people of Illinois to task Monday (August 11) just hours before he performed for them at the state's fair, according to the Associated Press.

Nugent appeared on a WJJG-AM radio show in Springfield, Ill., hosted by John Cox, a Republican candidate for United States Senate.

During the show, he told Cox that Illinois people are "sheeplike" for not getting more involved in government and called them "spineless, apathetic, embarrassing wimps."

Cox had asked Nugent to comment on Arnold Schwarzenegger's run for California governor, but Nugent didn't respond.

Nugent played the Illinois State Fair later that day.

Prior to the radio show appearance, Nugent had been critical of Illinois' gun laws.

Cox, meanwhile, has said he did not agree with Nugent's opinion of Illinois residents.
