SUPLECS: PEPPER KEENAN-Produced Album to Surface In November

September 28, 2005

SUPLECS' new full-length album, "Powtin' on the Outside, Pawty on the Inside", will be released on on November 8 via Nocturnal Records. The long-awaited CD will be supported with national tour dates to be announced shortly.

"Powtin' on the Outside, Pawty on the Inside" was produced by CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's inimitable frontman Pepper Keenan (also in DOWN with Philip Anselmo). The recording and mixing was done at the world-famous Balance Studio in Mandeville, LA (EVANESCENCE, MUDVAYNE).

"I signed this band for a career not for a one-off!" enthuses Nocturnal label owner Gene Joanen. "They will win over anyone that hears them and have garnered loyal fans who talk them up. More touring musicians tell me how they have digged watching these guys play. We're an indie and we know how tough it is to break a band. But we plan to work this release for as long as it takes!"

SUPLECS' Danny Nick (bass) had the following to say about the album: "I've known Pepper since I was about fifteen. So recording with him was really natural and it gave us some new direction.

He continues: "Durel [guitar, vocals] and I are really heavily influenced by MINUTEMEN, FIREHOSE; you can especially hear it during the instrumental interludes. And compared to the more serious stoner and heavy rock bands from around here, SUPLECS has more sarcasm, a dark sense of humor.....kinda like the CIRCLE JERKS (funny and sarcastic, but lyrically taking on serious issues). There's all these battles with death that are so common in New Orleans where we all live and grew up. Basically we're more nonchalant than a lot of the bands from here about that stuff — we sorta just mask our dark weirdness with humor." This masked humor also finds expression in the album title and art work (the CD's back panel depicts the New Orleans Saints stadium in flames and a besotted and bag-headed fan stumbling away giving the metal-horns salute).

SUPLECS love playing their home turf, but have spent far more time touring. Early August saw them complete national tour dates with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, CROWBAR, ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY and GWAR. The touring schedule behind their first two releases was relentless. They spent time on the road with bands like CLUTCH, HIGH ON FIRE and EYEHATEGOD (for whom Danny Nick also played bass at one time). Those early Man's Ruin releases had them rubbing elbows with labelmates like FU MANCHU, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and the MELVINS. They have also played with legions of stoner rock favorites like ACID KING, DIXIE WITCH and MYSTICK KREWE OF CLEARLIGHT (featuring members of CROWBAR, DOWN and EYEHATEGOD).

SUPLECS are Durel Yates on guitars and vocals, Danny Nick on bass and vocals and Andrew Curtis Preen on drums. The ten tracks on "Powtin' on the Outside, Pawty on the Inside", are:

01. Tsunami
02. Black Cloud
03. Gotta Pain
04. 10 to Life
05. Four Legged Love Song
06. Cities of the Dead
07. End of Me
08. Burnt
09. Welcome Home
10. Meatballs and Spaghetti
