STRAPPING YOUNG LAD Guitarist Turns Down DARK ANGEL Slot

December 13, 2002

STRAPPING YOUNG LAD's Jed Simon has turned down an offer to fill the vacant guitarist slot in DARK ANGEL following the departure of founding member Jim Durkin.

Although he had originally agreed to join the Los Angeles thrashers in their reunion bid, Simon has apparently had a change of heart — the reasons for which he says were multi-fold.

"It fucking kills me to say this, especially since DFA [DARK FUCKIN' ANGEL] is a major reason I do what I do...but...I am NOT joining DARK ANGEL," Simon told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "Here are my reasons:

01. No time...with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD/ZIMMERS HOLE and the recording of my other project TENET coming up, I can't, and wouldn't, do it justice.

02. Jim IS DARK ANGEL, and although it would be an honor to fill his shoes even for one fucking song ('Death Of Innocence'!),I just can't...

03. I don't want to be involved in ANY politics that may or may not be going on...period.

"I wish these guys [the founding members of DARK ANGEL] could fix whatever it is that needs to be fixed, and do it for the love of what they created together...or just walk away content with the knowledge that they inspired many...including myself. So, reunion or not, they will always have a special place in my heart. And hey, I can jam DFA riffs any fucking day of the week with [DARK ANGEL/STRAPPING YOUNG LAD drummer] Gene [Hoglan]!! How cool is that??!!

"Now... If I could only revive and infiltrate PESTILENCE...! Martin [Van Drunen]...where are you?!! :)"
