STONER KINGS Frontman Is New European Heavyweight Wrestling Champion

December 31, 2006

On December 2, 2006 in Vantaa, Finland at Fight Club Finland's Winter War
2006
event, "The Canadian Rebel" StarBuck — frontman of heavy rock band STONER KINGS — defeated Bernard Vandamme of Belgium to become the new European heavyweight wrestling champion.

In a grueling bout lasting over 27 minutes, StarBuck finally hit a devastating superkick that put Vandamme down for the fatal three count as special enforcer referee — Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen of PRIDE — counted the finishing pinfall.

"This is most definately the highlight of my career thus far," said StarBuck. "I've held other titles before this, but none as highly regarded or as esteemed as the European heavyweight title. I am honored to rise to the upper echelon of Canadian athletes and peers with this continental victory."

This marks the first time in history that a wrestler of Finnish ancestry has held the European title, which holds the longest lineage and tradition of any single wrestling championship in Europe today (operated under the auspices of Catch Promotion in France). This occasion also marks a dual championship reign for the Canadian-born StarBuck — trained by Canadian wrestling legend Lance Storm in 1993 — as the "Rebel" also holds the Italian heavyweight championship title.

The entire Winter War 2006 event was filmed professionally and is awaiting a DVD release in 2007.

STONER KINGS' latest album, "Fuck the World", came out in March 2006.
