STAIND Thinks Chart-Topping Streak Could Snap

August 22, 2008

The Pulse of Radio reports: The members of STAIND reckon their streak of three consecutive albums debuting at the top of the Billboard album chart could snap next week, when the band's latest effort, "The Illusion of Progress", makes its first appearance on the list. According to MTV.com, guitarist Mike Mushok thinks the band will be outsold by the JONAS BROTHERS in their second week on the chart. Mushok added, "All I can say is, we've been here for 10 years, and this is our sixth record. I feel proud to be able to say that. If it's not No. 1, it's not No. 1 — what are you going to do?"

The new JONAS BROTHERS album sold 525,000 copies in its first week, entering the chart on Wednesday (August 20) at No. 1. Even if they sell half that amount in their second week, Mushok said, "Half of that is more than what we'll sell, and it's good for those guys."

STAIND's previous chart-toppers were 2001's "Break the Cycle", 2003's "14 Shades of Grey", and 2005's "Chapter V".

Frontman Aaron Lewis said about the JONAS BROTHERS phenomenon, "It's just a different version of the boy-band thing all over again...It's HANSON 2008, with Disney behind them...How do you compete with that?"

"The Illusion of Progress" came out this past Tuesday (August 19). The group played at the Hard Rock Café in New York's Times Square to celebrate.

STAIND will team with 3 DOORS DOWN for eight shows beginning on August 23 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After a trip to Europe with NICKELBACK, the band will return to headline its own U.S. tour in October with PAPA ROACH and SEETHER supporting.
