SOULFLY Confirms Bassist's Departure, Recruits CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's CHOW For Upcoming Tours

SOULFLY has released a statement confirming the departure of bassist Bobby Burns (as BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported last night). According to the band, "The split was completely amicable and there was no animosity on either side."

Johny Chow (pictured below), who has played with SOULFLY's Max Cavalera (guitar, vocals) and Marc Rizzo (guitar) in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and is a member of FIREBALL MINISTRY, will be loaning his skills to upcoming SOULFLY tours for the immediate future until the position is filled. Fans will be able to check out this "rare" lineup at the U.K. installment of the Sonisphere festival and the Wacken Open Air event in Germany in August.

Burns was a member of SOULFLY for seven years, during which time he recorded four albums with the Max Cavalera-led band:

* "Prophecy" (2004)
* "Dark Ages" (2005)
* "Conquer" (2008)
* "Omen" (2010)

Burns, a self-described "bass player, guitarist, songwriter and producer," also handles guitar, bass and vocal duties for the hip-hop/punk/metal band PRIMER 55.

Bobby and wife Joy welcomed their first baby, a son named Ryder Lee Burns, in February.

SOULFLY's new album, "Omen", sold 6,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 73 on The Billboard 200 chart.

SOULFLY's last album, "Conquer", opened with 8,400 units back in August 2008 to land at position No. 66 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number was in line with the opening tally of the CD's predecessor, "Dark Ages", which shifted a little more than 8,000 copies during its first week of release in October 2005 to enter the chart at No. 155.
