SOCIAL DISTORTION, MOTÖRHEAD: More 'Musink Tattoo And Music Festival' Details Revealed

November 3, 2008

The first annual nationwide Kat Von D And Samsung Mobile Musink Tattoo And Music Festival will launch January 30, 2009 and traverse 25 major cities in the United States for six weeks. Musink was conceived by Kat Von D — one of the most popular tattoo artists in the world and the star of the TLC show "L.A. Ink" (a top-rated show on cable network television) — and she will be attending all dates.

Headlining each show will be legendary Orange County, California band SOCIAL DISTORTION. For three decades, SOCIAL DISTORTION have pushed the envelope and expanded the idea of American punk rock by blending influences from the worlds of country, blues, folk and rockabilly with their own brand of hard-driving rock 'n' roll.

Grammy Award-winning hard rock legends MOTÖRHEAD will also perform at all dates. Purveyors of some of the finest hard rock and heavy metal on the planet, MOTÖRHEAD recently released their 24th album "Motörizer", produced by Cameron Webb. Look for SOCIAL DISTORTION and MOTÖRHEAD to be joined by other music artists who'll be announced in the coming weeks.

These bands will join Kat Von D and a collection of the greatest tattoo artists from all over the world in each city, performing their tattoo art on attendees during the 25-city trek. This new traveling festival will showcase the best tattoo artists in the world, internationally known musical artists, extreme sports demonstrations, a technology village, lifestyle vendors and video gaming — all for a fan-friendly ticket price.

"We had such a blast with the first Musink Festival, it only made sense to take this event on the road and share the experience with everyone all over the country," says Kat Von D. "In my lifelong attempt to show the world what a brilliant form of art tattooing truly is, Musink will be the perfect way to showcase the world's top tattooers, and their diversity in culture and style of the art — all under one roof. Musink is gonna be so huge and so rockin'; I can't wait to share it with the fans!"

"This is incredible — Musink has finally put these two elements together in a very cool way," says Mike Ness, vocalist of SOCIAL DISTORTION. "Tattoos have always been a very personal thing to me and I never thought SOCIAL DISTORTION would have the opportunity to do an event like this. I can definitely say that we're stoked to be a part of it. I mean, I can play every night and get tattooed by some of the best artists in the world during the day. Seriously, what goes better than rock n' roll and tattoos?"

"Samsung Mobile is excited to share the stage with this incredible lineup of bands and legendary tattoo artist Kat Von D," said Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer for Samsung Mobile. "Samsung Mobile is dedicated to creating phones that let people be who they want to be. We believe that our sponsorship of Musink is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our Samsung Rant and Samsung HighNote, two phones that you can personalize to work just the way you want."

The Samsung Rant and Samsung Highnote are both available exclusively from Sprint. Customers can purchase the Rant and Highnote at Sprint retail stores, online at www.sprint.com or by calling 1-800-SPRINT1.

Musink debuted in Orange County, CA in February 2008, with over 15,000 people in attendance for the three-day lifestyle event. Headliners THE USED, TIGER ARMY and METAL SKOOL were joined by 300 of the best tattoo artists from around the world. The 2009 Musink Festival will span the U.S., including stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York and 21 other cities.

The Musink Festival Tattoo Arena will showcase some of the best tattoo artists from across the globe — including Kat Von D at every date — and feature tattoo sessions, seminars, tattoo contests and autograph signings. Musink is proud to feature Kat's forthcoming book "High Voltage Tattoo" (CollinsDesign; available January 20, 2009),which she'll be on hand to sign at every venue. Designed in a style that is reminiscent of a handmade gothic journal with its red padded cover, ornate typography, and parchment-like pages, this is the most dynamic book on tattooing ever published. With a foreword by MÖTLEY CRÜE's Nikki Sixx, it features images and stories about celebrities, rockers, pro skaters, and everyday citizens, including SLAYER's Kerry King, ANTHRAX's Scott Ian, Margaret Cho, "Jackass"'s Bam Margera, David Letterman and many others. There is a ten-page full body spread of Kat — clad in a yellow bikini and seven-inch, rhinestone-studded red stilettos — that catalogs in detail all her personal tattoos on her front, back, left, and right sides, even her hands and head. This is a stunning book that throws the door wide open to global tattooing culture in the way only an insider like Kat can.

Musink is being produced by Kat Von D, along with industry veterans Bill Hardie (producer of the legendary long-running Hootenanny Festival in Southern California, 2007 Musink in Orange County, CA and 2008 Spare The Air Festival in Fullerton, CA); John Reese (President of Freeze Artist Management; co-founder and co-producer of Rockstar Taste Of Chaos Tour, Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival and the Collegiate Get A Life Tour) and Darryl Eaton (CAA booking agent; responsible agent and co-producer of the Vans Warped Tour, Rockstar Taste Of Chaos Tour, Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival).
