SLIPKNOT: JIM ROOT's Mother Speaks To Iowa TV Station

Kathy Root, the mother of SLIPKNOT lead guitarist Jim Root, has told Iowa's WHO TV that she is proud of her son's accomplishments thus far. In addition to being nominated for a Grammy and receiving a platinum album for their debut CD, the group have been invited to perform live on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" Monday night (May 17).

"He was a great kid," Kathy Root told WHO TV. "Average, normal, never got into any trouble or anything. It's amazing."

According to his mother, Jim started playing the air guitar around the age of five. "We got him a guitar at a pawn shop," she said. After taking a few guitar lessons he joined his first band, STONE SOUR, which featured current SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor.

Kathy says she enjoys SLIPKNOT's frantic, heavy metal music — with a few exceptions... "Well there's a few words sometimes I don't like that."

Still, one word describes how Kathy feels about her son — it's "proud". "They're good citizens. They're just young men trying to make a living and doing what they like to do"
