SHAWN DROVER Says MEGADETH Is Still Around Because of DAVE MUSTAINE's Perseverance

May 4, 2007

Eric Schelkopf of the Kane County Chronicle recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover. A couple of excerpts follow:

On being a longtime MEGADETH fan before joining the group:

"This is a big part of my musical existence. Once the whole thrash movement came out, I was really heavily into it. It's great for me, all these years later, to play in one of my favorite bands. It's been great."

On why MEGADETH retains its popularity while other bands of that genre have long since called it quits:

"I think it's perseverance. He (frontman Dave Mustaine) never gave up anything. He just kept plugging at it, when it wasn't so popular to play this kind of music in the mid to late '90s. It didn't deter him from what he wanted to do. Now there is this whole resurgence of this genre of music and he was here the whole time."

On the making of MEGADETH's new album, "United Abominations":

"We wanted to make a good, solid record. I don't think we had any preconceived notions that we were going to make a certain kind of record. We just went in with a bunch of songs that we all liked, and went from there."

On the timing of the album's release:

"It's a sign of the times. This kind of music is really making a resurgence. A whole new generation of kids is really embracing it, and it's back in the media again. It's just a good time to put out a slamming metal record."
