SCORPIONS Discuss Their Greatest Hits On Special Edition Of 'Rockline' (Audio)

U.S. syndicated radio show "Rockline" aired a special on German hard rock legends SCORPIONS yesterday (Wednesday, December 15) as part of the "Notes On Music" series. You can now listen to the program at this location.

Commented the "Rockline" producers: "'Notes On Music' is a rare series we do only occasionally on 'Rockline'. It has no set schedule, instead somehow declaring itself ready for broadcast. The concept behind the series is to ask artists to discuss their greatest hits with us. We offer up a title and the artists tell us a story about the song, their memories of recording it, performing it, or sharing what happened after the song became public. 'Notes' is also limited to certain situations because it requires our guests to do two shows in one sitting. First is our 'regular' show featuring your calls and the artists' latest project they came to discuss with us. Then at the conclusion of our main program we occasionally ask our guests if they'll tell us stories about their songs. Then some sort of magic happens. We mention songtitles and our guests react to each. Sometimes it becomes really animated as our rock heroes begin remembering stories about their music.

"For this show we had all five members of SCORPIONS; they had a few extra minutes so off we went. Joining us were Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Mattias Jabs, Pawel Macewoda and James Kottak. Klaus, Rudy and Mattias did almost all the talking and they really got into it as they remembered highlights of each song we mentioned to them.

"The band is currently on break after having announced that they would stop recording and would only tour for a couple more years as they approached their 40th anniversary. We felt it was a good time to put them back in the spotlight broadcasting what is essentially a greatest hits show with these creators of the music sharing their favorite stories about their songs.

"We began with the title track from the album many feel broke them as a band not only here in the USA, but internationally as well, 'Lovedrive'. After hearing about the controversial album cover and more we went to another song from that same album, 'Lovin' You Sunday Morning', and we were off and running. The band was animated and having some fun. We went to 'The Zoo' and then 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' from their huge 'Love At First Sting' album. It kept on rolling with 'Wind of Change' and tales from the exciting era when Europe was changing daily.

"We aren't going to mention every song they discussed — you can listen to learn the whole list of eleven tunes — but we did cover their recent album, 'Humanity', and their newest and last, 'Sting In The Tail'.

"Great music, cool stories and way too much fun."
