SATAN Cancel KEEP IT TRUE II Festival Appearance

October 17, 2003

The reunited NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) legends SATAN have cancelled their previously announced appearance at next year's Keep It True II festival.

The following is the official statement on the matter from the festival's organizers:

"After we dealt everything with the band and got their final confirmation, I got an email from SKYCLAD manager Eric Cook. He told me that SKYCLAD are planning a tour around this time and that it is impossible for the SATAN members Steve Ramsey and Graeme English to play at [Keep It True]. He offered me that we can put SKYCLAD on the billing and so the SATAN show would have been saved. We thought about it and would have paid the flights for the rest of the SKYCLAD band, but then big joke came. SKYCLAD would only play if they headlined the festival and got a certain amount of money for [performing at the event]. Sorry, but this is blackmail and we won't do anything like this at Keep It True. I tried to save the SATAN show and wanted two BLITZKRIEG members to step in for the two SKYCLAD guys, but [SATAN guitarist] Russ Tippins said, he really does not want to play without his friends, which I totally respect. The bottom line is: We had to cancel the SATAN show, because the SKYCLAD management is not aware of the current status of the band and so forced the SATAN show to fail. The management has not even yet booked a tour around that date. They could have easily booked it around April 10th 2004. We are really sorry, that we cannot fulfill the dream of many people that SATAN play at [Keep It True] 2004. You will probably see them in Wacken. Perhaps SKYCLAD will play there, too. Who knows. I hope you understand, that we will never get blackmailed by anybody and we tried anything to save the SATAN show. It is not our fault. At the moment we are trying hard on getting an equal replacement for the band and there are some hopefuls."

As previously reported, Keep It True II festival will be held on April 10, 2004 at Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany. Among the artists set to appear at the event are CLOVEN HOOF, MANILLA ROAD, ELIXIR, PARADOX, HALLOWEEN and MAJESTY.
