RUSH Donate Equipment Money To Musicians Devastated By Southeast Asian Tsunami

September 19, 2005

According to a front-page article in the inaugural Saturday edition of the Wall Street Journal (dated Sept. 17, 2005),members of the Canadian rock band RUSH donated several thousand dollars for guitars to some of the musicians in Sri Lanka who lost their instruments in the Southeast Asian tsunami. RUSH reportedly got involved through Bruce French, "an itinerant private chef" who contacted his Canadian friends about donating money to buy the equipment. Although Mr. French "has a little bit of the hippie in him," he is "definitely a take-control kind of guy," Alex Lifeson, the band's 52-year-old guitarist, is quoted as saying in the article." The story also features a picture of a local band holding the guitars replaced by the band, with the caption "After a local band's instruments were destroyed by the waves, the rock group RUSH, friends of Mr. French, donated new equipment."
