ROB ZOMBIE's 'Corpses' Was Surprise Of The Weekend

Rob Zombie's $7 million horror extravaganza "House Of 1000 Corpses" was the surprise of the weekend, earning an estimated $3.4 million in 595 theaters, for an average of $5,714 per theater, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. Despite a very low-profile marketing campaign and tough-sell subject matter, Lions Gate Films — who picked up the movie after Universal and MGM dropped it, presumably out of concern over its violence and gore — plans to expand the picture to 700 theaters next weekend, although given the front-loadedness of this genre, it is not expected to top $10 million. This said, that's certainly a lot better than the $713,239 that Dee Snider's "Strangeland" mustered in its entire run.
