RICK RUBIN's COLUMBIA Co-Chair Move To Take Place This Week?

According to Hits Daily Double, the much-rumored-about move of producer Rick Rubin to Columbia Records as co-chairman could take place as early as this week, with the Grammy-winning producer bringing his American Recordings label and associated artists (including SLAYER) along with him from Warner Bros.Rubin will be the label’s A&R and producer presence on the West Coast, leaving Steve Barnett, who orchestrated the move with Sony Music chief Rob Stringer, to handle the business of running the label, currently No. 1 in both total and new release marketshare.

The New York Times reported last month that Rubin was attempting to negotiate an early release from his existing pact with Warner Bros., though any such agreement would still allow Rubin to produce for Warner-based artists, including the projects he has under way with LINKIN PARK and METALLICA.

Rubin, who made his name in the mid-1980s as the co-founder of rap label Def Jam, has scored hits recently as the producer of RED CHILI PEPPERS' "Stadium Arcadium" and DIXIE CHICKS' "Taking the Long Way", according to The Hollywood Reporter.
