Rare 1970s AEROSMITH Photographs Being Auctioned

January 6, 2005

The Boston Globe is reporting that a former fashion photographer, Jeff Lipsitt, who shot pictures of Boston-area up-and-coming bands some 30 years ago is auctioning numerous boxes of early 1970s photographs, slides, and contact sheets of various groups, including AEROSMITH. Lipsitt has decided to put the pics up on eBay in a 10-day auction. The minimum opening bid is $100,000. "I had really forgotten what was in there," said Lipsitt. "I'm still sorting what's in the boxes." So what makes him think the three or four boxes of AEROSMITH archeology he's unearthed are worth $100,000? "I wasn't working for them. I was there hanging out and taking pictures," said Lipsitt, adding that means he owns the copyright as well as the images. Who might buy them? "I don't think it would be a fan. I think it would be an entrepreneur . . . someone who might want to publish a book . . . maybe someone related to the band," he said.
