RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's TOM MORELLO Calls Virginia Massacre 'Horrendous Tragedy'

April 19, 2007

Launch Radio Networks reports: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello has watched along with the rest of the nation as the story of Monday's (April 16) horrifying massacre at the Virginia Tech campus has unfolded over the past two days. While there have been calls to revive the subject of gun control in the wake of the shootings, Morello said that the issue could be larger than that. "It's just a horrendous, horrendous tragedy, and it could very well be as simple as a gun control issue," he said. "But, you know, as we saw in the Michael Moore movie 'Bowling For Columbine', there are countries that have more guns per capita, that there's something kind of uniquely deranged about sort of the psyche of this country. You know, it doesn't have to do with violent video games where, you know, they're much more popular in, you know, Japan than they are here and yet there's no murder. It's really hard to pin down what it is about this culture that regularly springs up these horrible, murdering days. It's really, really tremendously sad."

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will take the stage on Sunday, April 29 for the first time in seven years at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California.

Morello and RAGE singer Zack de la Rocha performed a handful of RAGE songs in Chicago this past Saturday (April 14) at a rally for the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, an organization of immigrant farm workers who pick vegetables for big businesses like McDonald's.

Morello also performed at the event as his political folk alter ego, THE NIGHTWATCHMAN. He'll release the debut NIGHTWATCHMAN album, "One Man Revolution", on April 24.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will play three shows on this summer's Rock The Bells festival tour, while Morello continues a solo residency at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles and will play a number of shows with Ben Harper. He's planning a full solo tour for later this spring.
