QUEENSRŸCHE's MICHAEL WILTON: 'The Fans Know Who Wrote' The Band's Classic Songs

September 28, 2015

Metal Wani editor in chief Owais "Vitek" Nabi recently conducted an interview with QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Michael Wilton. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On former QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate's claim that he wrote the majority of the band's classic songs:

"I don't really follow any of that. And anyway, the fans know who wrote the songs, who wrote the music… It's a no-brainer. So I don't pay attention to that stuff. It's all about what we did, and it's history and it's fact and it's there. And you can read it any way you want, but who recorded the guitars? Who recorded the drums? Who recorded the bass? Who wrote those songs? It says right there on 'em, who wrote the music. And it's history. QUEENSRŸCHE's had a great history. We've had some ups and some downs. Fortunately, the majority of the fans, really, were from those first six albums and that way of writing. Those are the main albums, and those, to this day, are the albums that everybody's screaming for us to play those songs. So, yeah, it's all history, and that's about where it is. I don't follow any of that 'TMZ' stuff."

On how the songs from QUEENSRŸCHE's new album, "Condition Hüman", fit into the band's set alongside the group's classic tunes:

"The new songs flow with the set seamlessly, as if they were written during that time period. So there's no problem with them working new songs into the set, and the fans really encourage it. And the fans really encourage it. We've gotten to the point where the fans wanted to hear the songs they wanted to hear. QUEENSRŸCHE now gives that, and now they're saying, 'Now play some of your new stuff.' We've played the song 'Arrow Of Time' almost every day on the European/U.K. tour, and it went over amazing. I did interviews over there with blogs, with radio stations, and they're all playing the song and they love it. And the fans love it. Our fans listen — they pay attention to the music, and they pay attention at the concerts to these new songs. And people are already singing the chorus to 'Arrow Of Time'. And it's really amazing how everybody has latched on."

"Condition Hüman" will be released on October 2 via Century Media. The CD was recorded in part at at Uberbeatz Studio in Washington with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris, who has previously worked with ROB ZOMBIE, HATEBREED, SOULFLY and SHADOWS FALL.
