Producer BOB ROCK: After Parting Ways With METALLICA, I Can Have Fun Again

Bill Harris of the Toronto Sun reports: How does Bob Rock decide which acts he wants to work with as a producer?

"I think it really comes down to, who do I want to spend four months with?" Rock said with a laugh. "You can read it when you talk to them. I've been together with my manager Bruce Allen for so long, we can read a situation. We pick and choose."

Rock said he's enjoying his professional freedom following his lengthy association with METALLICA.

"After parting ways with METALLICA, this feels like, yeah, I can have fun again," Rock said.

"Not that they weren't fun — don't read that wrong. But it was a longer commitment than anyone thought it would be, both in a record sense and personally.

"I think we're both happy to be taking some time from each other. And it means I get to make all sorts of different records."
