'OZZY OSBOURNE' On Trial For Murder

September 23, 2005

U.K's Life Style Extra is reporting that a rock fanatic who changed his name to Ozzy Osbourne stabbed a friend to death inside his own apartment, a court heard on Thursday (Sept. 22).

Gary Ozzy Osbourne, 42, was born Gary Bacon — but changed his name by deed poll to mirror that of the rock star, the Old Bailey heard.

In January last year, he drove to the home in Enfield, north London, of Gary Hunt — a 33-year old small-time drug dealer who Osbourne had been friends with for a number of years, the jury was told.

Mr. Hunt, a keen DJ, was described by friends as being "easy-going" and someone who "wouldn't do any harm or hurt anyone" — but he and Osbourne got into an argument, it was alleged.

Osbourne then stabbed him a number of times and left him fatally injured, the court heard.

"What caused him to lose his control is something only he knows," said Mark Dennis, prosecuting. "It may have been an argument over drugs or a personal matter."

Osbourne then confessed to what he had done to two people over the following days, the jury heard.

Mr. Dennis said of the defendant: "He was born Gary Bacon but a few years ago he changed his name to mirror that of a former rock musician."

Osbourne, of Derby, denies murder.
