OZZFEST 2003: Fun For The Whole Family?

July 3, 2003

Katie Warchut of The Arizona Republic reports that Wednesday's (July 2) Ozzfest, an annual tour featuring OZZY OSBOURNE, MARILYN MANSON and KORN, didn't scare families away.

It offered an odd mixture at the Cricket Pavilion in west Phoenix. While black-clad metal fans covered in mesh and with tattoos and piercings headed toward a side stage, a mother combed her 6-year-old daughter's blond hair. Her other two daughters, ages 8 and 9, watched the crowd.

"My kids have been listening to rock and roll since they were born," said Angi Padgett of Glendale. Padgett wore a stud below her lip. Her own hair was shaved at the bottom of her head, the top in tiny braids.

"She was an Ozzy fan since birth," Padgett said of her 8-year-old. She gave the two younger ones tickets to Ozzfest for their birthdays. "(The oldest) is the least of the fans, but I couldn't find a sitter."

She said her kids aren't scared of the scene.

"I like opening their blinds to the outside world. They know their mom's a small part of it. The only harm in it would be to not expose them to it." Read more.
