ONSLAUGHT: 'Terror Alert' Forces Cancellation of European Festival Appearances

August 11, 2006

Reformed classic U.K. thrash outfit ONSLAUGHT has been forced to pull out of two European festivals this weekend due to the 'critical level terror alerts" which brought airports across the U.K. to a standstill. The band was due to headline Metal Mania Open Air Festival in Slovenia on Friday, August 11 and appear at the Brutal Assault Festival in the Czech Republic on Saturday, August 12.

Commented vocalist Sy Keeler: "We had a scheduled flight to Slovenia on Thursday, [August] 10th with Ryanair from Stansted, which was one of the many outbound flights cancelled from the U.K. We arrived at the airport at 7:00 a.m., ahead of schedule, but flight FR168 was eventually cancelled around 10:00 a.m. We have tried for the past 24 hours to find alternative flights but it's been impossible with the ongoing situation. We're really pissed off.

"After the cancellation of the Bulgarian Monsters Of Rock Festival last weekend, we were so looking forward to these two shows. We can only apologize to the festival promoters and all the fans that were hoping to come and see us. We will be trying to reschedule shows in both countries as soon as we can and we'll attempt to do something a little bit special for everyone who has missed out this time round.

"On a positive note, we are currently recording [the new ONSLAUGHT album] 'Killing Peace' in Derbyshire with [producer] Andy Sneap. Drums and guitars are done. Let me tell you, it sounds monstrous so far. Bass will be recorded next week and vocals and lead guitar the week starting August 28th. We are so looking forward to everyone hearing this monster."

Songtitles set to appear on "Killing Peace" include "Destroyer of Worlds", "Pain", "Tested to Destruction", "Burn", "Shock and Awe", "Prayer for the Dead", "Twisted Jesus", and "Killing Peace". The band's current lineup includes Sy Keeler (vocals),Nige Rockett (guitars),Steve Grice (drums),James Hinder (bass) and the group's latest addition, guitarist Alan Jordan (ex-MIRROR MIRROR, FRANKENSTEIN).

ONSLAUGHT recorded three albums in the late 1980s — including the underrated "In Search of Sanity" (1989, Polydor),featuring ex-GRIM REAPER frontman Steve Grimmett — before calling it a day.

Upcoming ONSLAUGHT dates:

Aug. 19 - Jalometalli - FIN
Sep. 16-17 - Thrash Domination 06 @ Club Citta - Tokyo, JPN
Sep. 30 - Bloodstock Indoor Festival @ Assembly Rooms - Derby, UK
