NIKKI SIXX Biography Publisher Responds To SIXX's 'Buyer Beware' Comments

February 2, 2010

Rock 'N' Roll Books, the publisher of "An Education in Rebellion: The Biography of Nikki Sixx", has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding MÖTLEY CRÜE/SIXX A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx's claim that the book is "an unauthorized biography [that] was written about me without my approval or support," resulting in the fans "getting ripped off by being sold a book without my involvement":

"This will be brief, but we felt obligated to reply to Nikki Sixx's 'Buyer Beware' email to fans regarding our forthcoming reissue of 'An Education in Rebellion: The Biography of Nikki Sixx'.

"First off, we have NEVER from day one made any statement to any effect of this being an authorized telling of Nikki's life story in ANY WAY, SHAPE or FORM. This book is a celebration of Nikki's life and times, and there's not one single NEGATIVE word, interview, portrayal or any other remote sort of defamatory or 'salatious' commentary included in the manuscript. Moreover, while the book is not authorized, it does include a wide array of interview contributions from musicians, etc. who have worked first-hand with Nikki over the years throughout his myriad of professional and personal accomplishments both on shaping the last 25 years of hard rock, as well as his many contributions to assisting other musicians with maintaining sobriety, etc., as attested to by late [intervention/addiction specialist] Bob Timmons' comment that 'Nikki Sixx is one of the reasons why I continue to do the work I do, and that's probably the highest compliment I know to pay him.' That rings true in almost every interview we conducted for this book.

"Regarding the Songvest.com auction, we simply offered fans the opportunity to buy into the BOOK's royalty stream, and thankfully we were able to finance the book's release as a result.

"This book from DAY ONE has been a TRIBUTE to legacy of Nikki Sixx, and everyone participating — from the writer to the publishing partners to the millennium rock bands that are included in the bonus sampler — ALL are on board for that reason first and foremost.

"We will proceed with the retail release in the same spirit, and hope readers give this book a chance on its merits as a good read above all else."

Rock 'N' Roll Books/SCB Distribution will reissue "An Education in Rebellion: The Biography of Nikki Sixx" with a brand new cover in late spring. According to a press release, the book is "packed with star-studded exclusive interview material" with MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee, SIXX: A.M. frontman/songwriting partner James Michael, legendary producer Bob Rock, female rock icon Lita Ford, late QUIET RIOT frontman Kevin DuBrow, '80s CRÜE producer Tom Werman, '90s producer Scott Humphrey, former MÖTLEY CRÜE/BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION guitarist/vocalist John Corabi, side-project 58 co-producer Dave Darling, former LONDON bandmate Lizzy Grey, legendary rock photographer Neil Zlozower, former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, recovery counselor Bob Timmons, and a host of others contributing commentary on the life and times of MÖTLEY CRÜE founder/lead songwriter/bassist Nikki Sixx.

Originally released in 2002, the 320-plus-page book has been entirely re-edited, updated through 2009, and features a two-disc bonus sampler featuring original bands influenced by the music of Sixx/MÖTLEY CRÜE.
