NEVERMORE Guitarist Talks About GIGANTOUR

June 27, 2005

Denmark's Antenna webzine recently conducted an interview with NEVERMORE guitarist Jeff Loomis. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

Antenna: How did you get involved in Gigantour?

Jeff Loomis: "What happened is that Dave Mustaine [MEGADETH] was trying to find some great U.S. metal bands for his tour, and I happen to be friends with Shawn and Glen Drover [the new members of MEGADETH], and they mentioned NEVERMORE as a possibility. That's officially how it happened, but it added some perspective to it that Dave Mustaine produced SANCTUARY's [pre-NEVERMORE] 1988 debut, and he is friends with [Warrel Dane] and Jim [Sheppard]. I'm really excited about meeting the guys from MEGADETH again, and we in fact already did when we played the Graspop Festival in Belgium the other day. When we toured the U.S. before this arrangement, it was in front of 800 or 900 people, and this tour will surely give us the opportunity to expand our audience. Our popularity always stems a little bit more over here in the United States than over in Europe, and that's what we're trying to change with this."

Antenna: What's your point of view upon the other bands on that bill?

Jeff Loomis: "I love FEAR FACTORY as well as DREAM THEATER. I'm a big fan of John Petrucci [DREAM THEATER's guitarist] and his playing. I've obviously followed MEGADETH from the very beginning; well, I'm not trying to kiss in the ass here, but I'm just really excited about touring with those guys."

Antenna: Do you have any information about how long for NEVERMORE will play for, when and what?

Jeff Loomis: "There's going to be a second stage and a main stage, and NEVERMORE's going to be the first band on the main stage, with 30 minutes top play. It's not very long, but that means that we've got 30 minutes to kick as much ass as possible. We'll play a couple of the new songs off the new record and then some of the old catalogue. What we're going to do is... we've got a European headliner tour coming up after the Gigantour, and we're going to rotate three sets every night, so people will get to see a different show from us every night. And this will [help] get us warmed up for a headliner tour, using it as a rehearsal. You really have to structure your setlist. . . It's quite difficult choosing the perfect setlist, and we're actually asking our fans to vote for it on our website."
