MOUNTAIN Legend LESLIE WEST Teams Up With DEAN GUITARS

November 21, 2006

Rock legend Leslie West, from the band MOUNTAIN, has teamed up with Dean Guitars to create a Leslie West Signature Model — a custom, single cutaway, co-designed by West and company founder Dean B. Zelinsky.

West's legend became synonymous with tone when he dialed a ton of it out of his Jr. for the classic lick on "Mississippi Queen". In that spirit, West built his Dean signature model "from the sound up." Plenty of natural tone and sustain are achieved through the model's set neck construction, anchoring its mahogany neck to the solid mahogany body.

Impossible to overlook on this axe is its seductively carved, 5A flame maple top, which is stained in a vintage two-tone burst. What gives this guitar the look of no other in guitar history is the ¾-inch maple top which has been shaped and contoured in a three-dimensional approach as only Dean can. It's a work of art that needs to be seen to be believed.

The carved, flame maple top sits over the select mahogany body, adding even more sustain. Throw in the super-hot custom wound DiMarzio humbucker in the bridge position that has West's tone right out of the box and you are holding a beauty that roars.

Leslie insisted that the volume knob goes to 11 on this stunning model. After he plugged it in the first time, he stated, "10 was not enough!"

"Tone like I've never heard before and believe me I know f'n' tone. I've never played a guitar that sounded or felt this good … if only I had it at Woodstock," said West. "But Zelinsky was only 12 years old."

Production is limited to 100 guitars, all which are hand-signed by Leslie West. The West signature model lists for $5,335.00 and includes a hardshell case, certificate of authenticity and hand-signed photos.
