MOTÖRHEAD: Grammy Award Winners, Rock Legends, Pranksters

September 16, 2008

Not only are MOTÖRHEAD Grammy Award winners, they are also pranksters. They frequently pull pranks on other bands during the last night of the tour, and the Metal Masters tour was no different. Below are three photos taken by photographer Randy Maranz on August 31 in Northern California during TESTAMENT's set:

* Phil Campbell, in dress, blue wig and shades, riding a horse across the stage
* Senor Mikkey Dee in costume with mustache and toy burro
* Lemmy, the clean-up man, with a thumbs-up and a broom ready to clean up any horse droppings

Just before HEAVEN AND HELL's set, MOTÖRHEAD passed out newspapers to the folks in the first five rows, so when HEAVEN AND HELL came out, the crowd up front was jokingly engrossed in the day's news.

Though this "tour of the year" has just concluded, MOTÖRHEAD has now set out across the U.S. once again, as headliners of the Volcom Tour.

"Motörizer", the new album from MOTÖRHEAD, has registered the following first-week chart positions:

Germany: #5
Finland: #9
Sweden: #10
Hungary: #11
Norway: #11
Switzerland: #11

France: #24
UK: #32
Canada: #33
Czech Republic: #41

Holland: #58

"Motörizer" sold a little more than 6,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release.

The follow-up to 2006's "Kiss of Death" was recorded in part (drums only) at FOO FIGHTERS frontman/ex-NIRVANA drummer Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in Northridge, California with producer Cameron Webb, who also worked on "Kiss of Death" and 2004's "Inferno".

MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee was interviewed for this week's "The Metal File" podcast from Montreal's CHOM-FM. Download the show as an MP3 file at this location.
