MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD: 'Merciless' Cover Banned

August 22, 2005

According to Roadrunner Records U.K., New York hardcore legends MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD are in trouble again. The artwork for the group's upcoming third album, "Merciless", has both U.S. distributor RED and Roadrunner ready to shelve the album. "We had no idea this would happen this time," swore the group's guitarist/co-lyricist, Justin Brannan. The "Merciless" cover features an authentic looking corpse in an apartment with the mail stacking up. In fact, to ensure the album can be stocked, it will now be released with a reversible cover — the new image will be toned down, but fans will be able to flip over for the original picture once they've purchased it. "It's real life. It's someone our age that just dies and no one cares enough to notice," the band said. Such is the MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD assessment of life today. "We've got World War 3 going on we have no time for poetry and guitar solos. It's back to the old school of hardcore, get in, say what you want to say and get out. More than ever, hardcore should write that the end of the world can come tomorrow, but instead most bands are writing like we have our whole life ahead of us. We wanted to write an album that isn't dumbed down but has short songs with lyrics you can relate to immediately."

MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD is made up of guitarists Brannan and Rachel Rosen, bassist Matty Miller, vocalist Rob Fusco and drummer Colin (the twelfth in a rotating cast, which still draws "Spinal Tap" comparisons). The group formed in the summer of 2000 after the breakup of notable hardcore band INDECISION, of which Rachel and Justin were members.
