MOONSPELL: 'Memorial' Certified Gold In Portugal

January 16, 2007

MOONSPELL's "Memorial" has been certifield gold in the band's home country of Portugal for sales in excess of 10,000 copies. This is the first time a Portuguese metal band has ever received this award.

As previously reported, MOONSPELL made yet another appearance on Portuguese national TV (RTP1) recently when they performed a reworked version of their song "Luna" to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the popular "Contra-Informacão" show (a program where public figures of the Portuguese society are sarcastically portrayed in puppets, with dialogue commenting the daily happenings and news). MOONSPELL can be seen performing a "subversive" version of "Luna", featuring ex-USSR communism-related lyrics. Watch the video at YouTube.com. MOONSPELL was also the featured musical guest on the Portuguese comedy program "Gato Fedorento" ("Smelly Cat") on December 10, 2006. The show, which consists of gags acted/scripted by four comedians — Zé Diogo Quintela, Miguel Góis, Ricardo de Araújo Pereira and Tiago Dores — featured MOONSPELL performing a metal version of the "Noddy" TV theme. Watch MOONSPELL's performance at YouTube.com.

MOONSPELL was named "Best Portuguese Act" at MTV's 13th annual Europe Music Awards, held on Nov. 2 in Copenhagen, Denmark. This is the first time ever a metal band has won that particular award in Europe.

MOONSPELL will team up with NAPALM DEATH, BEHEMOTH and DEW-SCENTED for a European tour in March/April. A list of tour dates can be found at this location.

"Memorial" was released in April 2006 via SPV Records. The CD was recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Waldemar Sorychta (LACUNA COIL, TIAMAT, GRIP INC.).
