METALLICA's 'Through The Never' Stage Was 'The Largest Indoor Production In The History Of Touring'

September 24, 2013

A new behind-the-scenes clip from the making of METALLICA's new 3D IMAX movie, "Metallica Through The Never", can be seen below. The clip contains footage of METALLICA unleashing its powerful new stage show Full Arsenal during eight incredible sold-out nights in Mexico City.

The members of METALLICA will make select personal appearances at theaters around the country starting this Thursday (September 26) to celebrate the release of "Metallica Through The Never". The film officially opens on Friday (September 27) for an exclusive week-long run on IMAX screens before expanding to other theaters on October 4.

It might be good to have members of the group on hand to explain the surreal narrative that winds its way through the concert footage, in which a roadie played by Dane DeHaan finds himself in an increasingly hostile urban environment while on a mission for the band. Bassist Robert Trujillo told The Pulse Of Radio what he thinks it all means. "My take on it is there's two worlds," he said. "When you're in a concert venue with METALLICA, it could seem like the most perfect environment. But beyond those walls of the venue, you have mayhem and it could be anything. It could be anarchy. There are problems beyond those walls that exist with what's happening in that bubble of, you know, this perfect world of music and metal."

In other news, METALLICA played two special gigs over the weekend in New York City: the first was Saturday night (September 21) at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, where the band played an intimate show for around 1,500 fans in the small yet historic theater.

The second event, on Sunday (September 22),took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, where the band came out to play "Enter Sandman" in honor of Yankees great Mariano Rivera, who is retiring at the end of this season.

The closer, who holds the Major League record for most saves, has used "Enter Sandman" as his entrance music since 1999.

After their performance in center field, METALLICA came down to home plate to present Rivera with a custom amplifier that read "Metallica 42 Sandman" in honor of the pitcher's uniform number. That day's opposing team, the San Francisco Giants, also gave Rivera a custom guitar designed by Kirk Hammett and signed by baseball legend Willie Mays.
