May 1, 2007

A super-rare interview with METALLICA's Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton, conducted by Ken of Metal Fanzine at Metal Joe's in New Jersey on August 4, 1984 (the day after METALLICA's show at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City opening for RAVEN),has been posted online at YouTube. Ken has also posted audio outtakes/radio IDs from an ultra-rare radio interview he conducted with Cliff Burton in 1983 in Cleveland, Ohio after METALLICA's show at the Agora. Check it out at this location. A photo of Ken and Cliff can be found at this location.

Back in February 2007, Johan Mörling, one of the organizers of the Cliff Burton "memorial day" — which included the unveiling of a memorial stone dedicated to late METALLICA bassist Cliff Burton on Sept. 30, 2006 at the Gyllene Rasten restaurant/bar in Dörarp (outside Ljungby),Sweden — sent the following update to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"We have plans to make this an annual event, where fans all around the world can come to Gyllene Rasten and pay tribute to Cliff Burton. Last year's event was a success, with almost 300 people attending. We had bands playing, and it was like a mini-festival. This is something that we definately think about carrying on with. All this is made to preserve the memorial stone for Cliff Burton, and to make it a meeting point for all METALLICA fans who appreciate his work."

As previously reported, the memorial stone dedicated to Cliff Burton was recently moved so it would not suffer from the snow and the harsh weather during the winter in Sweden. Check out photos of the final location of the Cliff Burton memorial stone:

A two-minute video clip of the Sept. 30, 2006 unveiling of the memorial stone dedicated to Cliff Burton has been posted online at YouTube.com. It was on September 27, 1986 — more than 20 years ago — that Burton died in a tragic bus accident in Sweden, just over the road from where Gyllene Rasten is located.
