METAL HAMMER GOLDEN GODS Awards To be Broadcast In Europe On MTV2's 'Headbanger's Ball'

May 11, 2006

The fourth annual Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards will be broadcast in Europe this year on alternative music TV channel MTV2 as part of the newly relaunched MTV2 "Headbanger's Ball" show. MTV2 will also sponsor the "Best Video" category, dominated this year by Warner Music, who hold a staggering four out of the five nominations. H.I.M., FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, AVENGED SEVENFOLD and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE are all up for gongs for their high-budget "mini-movie" videos.

As part of the deal, MTV2 will broadcast the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2006 show, which will air across 18 European countries, a total of five (5) times and will premiere on MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball" at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4 following the awards night on June 12 at London's Koko venue. In the run-up to the awards, MTV2 will also offer viewers the chance to vote in the best video category through the MTV2 web site.

"MTV2 coming on board as the broadcast partner for the awards is a huge boost to the Golden Gods and confirms that we are continuing to develop the Metal Hammer and Golden Gods brand," commented Chris Ingham, Publisher of Metal Hammer magazine. "The airing of the show in 18 countries across Europe ties in significantly with the European export of Metal Hammer magazine and reaffirms that after 20 years of defending the faith, Metal Hammer, in partnership with MTV2, are the true purveyors of rock."

Now in its fourth year, the awards coincide with the 20th anniversary of Metal Hammer magazine, which has long been one of the leading magazines for fans of heavy rock and metal music. From its beginnings in 1986, Metal Hammer has constantly been at the forefront of extreme music and continues to pave the way and defend the faith for the alternative rock music scene. Daring to cover music genres and artists others fear to, Metal Hammer magazine has risen to become an institution in rock music over the years. The dedication of the magazine to its readers and its integrity sets it apart from the rest of the market, something that was reflected in the recent ABC announcement, which saw Metal Hammer magazine increase its year-on-year circulation a staggering 15%, which equates to a 50% circulation rise in the last two years alone.
