MEMENTO Change Name To MAN VS CLOCK: New Music Available

January 7, 2005

MEMENTO, the California-based band led by the Australian-born frontman Justin Stewart Cotta, have officially changed their name to MAN VS CLOCK. Cotta's statement on the matter reads as follows:

"The band went through a lot in 2004. Space [guitar] and Steve [Clark, drums] left the band for personal reasons. Lats [bass] and I fought as hard as we could to keep them in MEMENTO. They were both solid musicians. More importantly they were our brothers. It was just not meant to be. We wish them well in their personal lives and in their professional endeavors.

"I got so down that I almost quit music altogether. I lost my apartment, my dog, my girl, my job, my best friends, my band and my sanity. I contemplated going back to Australia. I drank myself into oblivion. It felt like everything was over.

"One night, after going through yet another dark day, I visited a fan site dedicated to MEMENTO. I looked through all the live photos, the photos with fans, the fan artwork, the fan feedback, the fan poetry. I was overcome with emotion. I was brought to my knees. I put some demos of [the debut MEMENTO album] 'Beginnings' on the stereo.

"I would imagine there's nothing funnier than watching a big bald drunk man cry his eyes out like a child!!!

"After I had my 'moment,' I was left just lying on my lounge room floor, staring at the ceiling. I guess you'd say I had an epiphany, like when you realize you need to change your smelly socks! I realized that all that I am is an artist, be it a good one or a bad one. All that I live for is art. My greatest joy is writing music and singing for an audience. The only family I've got here in the USA is you... the fans and friends we made whilst touring. I realized that the answer was not in drinking myself into oblivion, or hurting myself, or taking pills, or taking drugs, or being bitter. The only organic answer was to stop feeling sorry for myself and to get back to making music for the people I care about.

"And so I present you with my heart and soul... again!! MAN VS CLOCK. Listen to it for yourself.

"If you believe in what Lats and I are doing, and you believe in MAN VS CLOCK, here is what I want you to do. Download our songs from [this location]. I want you to burn them to as many CDs as you can, and I want you to give them away to people who you respect and trust as fellow music listeners. I would love for you to make up flyers of MAN VS CLOCK with the web address and the MP3 address and hand them out at any show you go to. I want you to join the new message board at ManVsClock.com, I want you to sign our guest book and join our new mailing list. I want us to honor what we started. In return, all I have to offer right now, is my soul and my energy. All I can promise you is that I will sing my Aussie ass off every day of the week and that everything I have asked of you, I will also be doing myself.

"At the end of the day, Lats and I have missed the hell out of you all and we cannot wait to see you on the road with MAN VS CLOCK this year.

"The new line-up is awesome. Jeff, Lats, Armando and Noah are by far the best band I have had the privilege of working with. It is an amazing configuration and after much heartache, I can finally say that I could not be prouder or happier. This is my real band, and this is my real family.

"We are all looking forward to looking you in the eye.

"Love you to death. Get on the MVC team and spread the word. Have an awesome 2005. Never give up and be nice to yourself."

MAN VS CLOCKwill be appearing live at The Roxy in West Hollywood, California on February 7.
