May 15, 2014

Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON will film a video for the song "High Road" on Saturday, May 24 in the Los Angeles area. The band is looking for "both eccentric character actors and real-life Live Action Role Playing enthusiasts." The group adds: "We are looking for elves, orcs, wizards, rangers, mages, knights! Experience with 'LARP' combat a huge plus. Preferably 18+. Come in your own LARPer costumes or MASTODON-themed LARPer costumes!"

If interested in taking part in the video shoot, please send your name, e-mail, phone number, age and recent photo to: [email protected].

"High Road" is taken from MASTODON's sixth album, "Once More 'Round The Sun", which will be released on June 24 via Reprise Records. The follow-up to 2011's "The Hunter" was recorded in Nashville with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz, who is known for his work with RUSH, DEFTONES, FOO FIGHTERS and ALICE IN CHAINS.

Also available on June 24 will be a stunning deluxe 2LP vinyl edition of "Once More 'Round The Sun". This limited edition will include two discs pressed onto 180-gram black vinyl housed in a quadruple gatefold vinyl jacket featuring artwork by renowned Oakland-based artist Skinner, who specializes in "psychedelic nightmare paintings," plus a CD of the complete album. The package will include four exclusive lithographs derived from the album artwork.

Those who preorder the deluxe vinyl edition will be entitled to bonus digital content: An instant download of "High Road", plus another album track delivered digitally prior to street date, and a download of the entire album delivered digitally on street date.

In a recent interview with ARTISTdirect.com, MASTODON guitarist Bill Kelliher stated about "High Road". "I wrote the music. The lyrics were written by [MASTODON drummer] Brann Dailor. It was a riff I wrote in my sober time. I was feeling really good about it. I actually wrote it on a James Hetfield model ESP. It's the 'Snake Bite' guitar.

"I was sitting in my hotel room in Luxembourg because we had a couple of days off there.

"It's a very simple, easy, and heavy riff. I didn't think it would catch on with anybody else, but Brann was, like, 'I hear some really cool vocals there!' It just blossomed into this huge six-minute song with cool leads. They're not solos, but leads in the middle of the song I put together my song. It's something I worked really hard on.

"It's new and fresh."
