MARILYN MANSON Talks 'Born Villain' In New Interview

April 11, 2012

MARILYN MANSON will release his long-awaited new album, "Born Villain", on May 1 (one day earlier internationally) via Cooking Vinyl and Manson's own label Hell, Etc.

In a brand new interview with Loudwire, Manson said he knew people "won't give a shit" about the record unless it was confrontational.

"If everything is happy, then who gives or a shit, or if it's just a straight line, I won't give a shit either," he said. "If it's down, which is sometimes where I was more often than up, it's not inspiring. So I just wanted to make something that would make people feel something."

He added: "I was playing it to people that were my friends. Some of them never heard my music before, never liked my music, whatever the situation was, but it's a challenge and I love a challenge. I had forgotten how much I love a challenge."

Manson also compared "Born Villain" to his more recent efforts, saying, "I feel like I did get to a point on my previous two records — not that I'm discrediting the music that I did or hating it or anything of that nature — I just feel that I started to change the way I wrote because I wanted to open up. Sometimes you don't know how the fuck to be yourself."

Marilyn Manson's new video, "No Reflection", can be seen below. The clip was directed by Lukas Ettlin, who previously worked with Manson on the award-winning "Personal Jesus" video.

"No Reflection" will be released as a white seven-inch vinyl in Europe on April 21. The vinyl will be strictly limited to 1500 copies and will feature "No Reflection" (album version) and "No Reflection" (single edit). The release is in support of Record Store Day.

Drummer Ginger Fish (real name: Kenneth Robert Wilson) quit MARILYN MANSON in February 2011 and has since joined ROB ZOMBIE. He has been replaced by the Los Angeles-based drummer Jason Sutter.

MARILYN MANSON in 2009 parted ways with longtime record label Interscope following the disappointing sales performance of "The High End Of Low".

"The High End Of Low" was Manson's first album with longtime bassist Twiggy Ramirez since 2000's "Holy Wood".
