MÖTLEY CRÜE Singer: 'Most Of The Bands That Started When We Started Are Pretty Much Gone'

July 13, 2007

Travis M. Whitehead of Texas' The Monitor reports: This weekend fans can enjoy a broad range of musical talent including SLAUGHTER, Vince Neil from MÖTLEY CRÜE, QUIET RIOT and CHUBBY CHECKER for the first-ever Bandtango food, art and music festival.

Neil said Texas audiences are great.

"I love it in Texas," he said in a phone interview with The Monitor. "I've always had a great time, the fans are great. It's rock n' roll. All rock 'n roll audiences are pretty much the same. They're there for the same thing, whether it be Texas or Maine, anywhere in the country or the world. They're there to have a good time, and go to a rock 'n roll concert. Have some fun and let loose."

Neil will play some of the classic songs of MÖTLEY CRÜE, which just completed a tour that began in February 2005. While the band takes a break from the road, Neil continues playing across the country.

He finds no preference between playing the smaller venues versus the bigger crowds.

"I love both," he said. "It's fun to get up and personal with the smaller places, but it's also fun to play the big stuff. It's just seeing new faces, watching the looks on people's faces when you play songs like 'Girls, Girls, Girls', songs that everybody knows, everybody sings along, it's cool."

Neil said probably his biggest accomplishment as a solo performer and as a member of MÖTLEY CRÜE is the fact he's still performing after 26 years.

"Most of the bands that started when we started are pretty much gone," he said. "MÖTLEY CRÜE has endured. The last tour was a sold-out concert tour playing the big arenas and big outdoor venues. We now have a new generation of fans, which is pretty cool. When you see 18,000 people out there, and you've got 14- and 15-year-olds in 'Shout at the Devil' shirts, that's pretty cool."
