MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX: 'You Can't Look Like A Roadie And Be In A F**king Band'

March 26, 2012

MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx was interviewed last week on Washington D.C.'s Fox 5 about the band's upcoming co-headlining tour with KISS — dubbed simply "The Tour" — which will kick off on July 20 in Bristow, Virginia. You can watch the chat below.

When asked if he had any concerns about getting physically worn down by the upcoming three-month mammoth trek with KISS, Sixx said, "I've been worn down for so long, I've becom like… We're like soldiers, man — you can't take us out now. You do it long enough and you realize that you just get stronger and you get better — you're a better player, better singer, better performer, and you just go. You're like a war machine, to be honest with you. The longer you've been around, the better you get. And if there's anything that young musicians [should] take away from this, you can't look like a roadie and be in a fucking band. You've gotta be in a band. You've gotta be a rock star. You've gotta dress like a rock star, you've gotta play music that's important, you've gotta put a hundred percent into your lyrics, a hundred percent into your songs, a hundred percent into your show, your packaging, your marketing, and do it. It's time for new bands to step up because KISS and MÖTLEY CRÜE, AEROSMITH, THE [ROLLING] STONES… we're not always gonna be here. Who's gonna replace us? There's no one out there. It's sad."

MÖTLEY CRÜE recently entered drummer Tommy Lee's studio called The Atrium in Calabasas, California to begin recording a new song that will be released to coincide with the band's upcoming summer co-headlining tour with KISS.

Speaking to VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner following last week's press conference at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California to officially announce details of the tour, Sixx stated about the band's new track, "We're gonna play it on tour. We just wrote it and recorded it. We're just finishing mixing. It's called 'Sex' and it sounds very much like it's off of the first record [1981's 'Too Fast For Love']. And that was definitely on purpose. I've been writing very simple riffs for the last year and focusing on how these riffs would work for Vince [Neil, vocals], basically, and took it in the studio with Tommy and Mick [Mars, guitar] and the thing just came alive."
