LORDI Bassist: 'It Wasn't Our Idea To Do EUROVISION'

September 15, 2006

In a recent interview with DailyRecord.co.uk, LORDI bassist Ox spoke about the band's surprising win at this year's Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Hard Rock Hallelujah".

"First of all, it wasn't our idea to do Eurovision," Ox explained. "We were invited and not all of the band members wanted to do it. But then we thought, what the hell. Let's go. Let's try. So we said yes. After that, we wanted to change the contest a little. To bring rock 'n' roll to it and some fire.

"The closer we went to the final the more we started to think that we might make third place or something like that because of the hype. But to win was a surprise. We didn't expect that at all."

Having been accused of Satanism and with rumours of murder, mayhem and cannibalism rife among some of Scandinavia's more bonkers black metal acts, Ox admits LORDI find humans adorable — but couldn't eat a whole one.

"We have nothing to do with Satan. It's just rock 'n' roll," he insisted. "We have never eaten human beings. We don't eat people. We draw the line at that. In Norway, there are some black metal bands who that applies to. In any case, one of us is vegetarian — our keyboard player. So there's a limit to what we will do for rock 'n' roll."
