LED ZEPPELIN's 2007 Reunion Concert Helps Fund Oxford University Scholarships

March 1, 2012

According to the Daily Mail, funds raised by LED ZEPPELIN's reunion concert at 02 Arena in London, England in December 2007 partially contributed to the £26 million ($41.6 million) donation, made by Mica Ertegun, widow of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, to Oxford University. The money will be used to set up the Mica And Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities.

Oxford vice-chancellor Andrew Hamilton said, "The money from the concert was a magnificent moment that allowed the funding, a number of years ago, of both undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships. That was the start of a partnership was has led to the creation of the Ertegun Scholarships, which are due to the 'immense generosity' of Mrs. Ertegun."

LED ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones said that he was "very proud" that the concert had resulted in the new program.
