Late LED ZEPPELIN Drummer JOHN BONHAM To Be Honored With Hometown Festival

A very special music event to celebrate late LED ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham's 70th birthday, his life and legacy, dubbed "John Bonham: A Celebration", will be held on September 22 in his hometown of Redditch, Worcestershire, England.

The recently installed John Bonham Memorial in the town center will be handed over to Redditch Borough Council followed by a fantastic event nearby. A stellar lineup of rock/blues artists and special guests, all with a connection to John and the Bonham family, will take to the stage in a massive festival marquee, commencing at 1:00 p.m. and rocking until 11:00 p.m. Acts will be revealed via the Twitter feed @JBonhamMF and Facebook page John Bonham Memorial Redditch. Tickets are £25 each (plus £1.50 booking fee) on sale via link from this web site.

A spokesman said: "This memorable event will host a mix of well-known stars and upcoming musicians, all donating their time to remember John Bonham and to raise vital funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and their outreach nurse program across the West Midlands."

Ticket numbers are strictly limited to just 1,000 on a first-come-first-served basis. Over 18s only.

John Bonham died on September 25, 1980 of pulmonary edema which is fluid accumulation in the lungs. He was 32 years old.

LED ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones said that while some people mistook Bonham's powerful drumming style as a lack of control and technique; that was far from the case. "He wasn't musically out of control in any way," he said. "He knew just what he was doing. But he could take chances — as we all did in those days. Just take a lot of chances on stage. And it was great: sometimes it comes off, sometimes it don't."
