KORN Guitarist Says HEAD's Departure Left Him 'Empty'

May 7, 2005

KORN fan site Korn Unleashed has published the second part of their recent interview with KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer. An excerpt from the interview follows:

Korn Unleashed: How are you going to manage [playing] live shows [without a second guitarist, now that Brian "Head" Welch is gone]?

James: "We will hire someone to play in the back (guitar) and David [Silveria, drums] will trigger some samples."

Korn Unleashed: That will definatly be interesting to see. Any idea on who you'll hire?

James: "Someone close to us already...not just some stanger. There's not gonna be some big auditions or anything."

Korn Unleashed: If Brian happened to ask to come back in KORN, do you think the band would allow him back?

James: "Well, first we would have to talk about him leaving and resolve the problems, then discuss if we need him or not. The whole Jesus thing was weird. I'm happy for him, but it was so extreme. A big part of me felt empty, you know what I mean? I saw him more than anyone in my own family."

Korn Unleashed: Is there a specific reason why you are using outside producers for the new CD rather than producing the album yourselves, like you did with "Take a Look in the Mirror"?

James: "'Take a Look in the Mirror' was to prove to ourselves we could do it. We actually tried a number of producers...it was kinda like when we decided to use another person than Ross [Robinson]. We needed to change heavy music again."
