Journalist: Heavy Metal Fans Didn't Get The Joke

Eric Heyl of Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has penned a follow-up article to last week's "Did Heavy Metal Turn Calif. Kid Into Terrorist?" column which caused the readers of BLABBERMOUTH.NET to jam his inbox with death threats and other not-so-subtle expressions of disapproval. He writes: "Hell hath no fury like a headbanger seemingly scorned.

"This I discovered last week after penning a seemingly innocuous column jokingly linking Californian Adam Gadahn's evolution into suspected terrorist to his youthful love of heavy metal music. Gadahn, 25, is being hunted by various law enforcement agencies for allegedly having al-Qaida ties.

"Unfortunately, the vast majority of metalheads failed to get the joke. They were convinced I had attacked their favorite form of music.

"The column thus far has inspired nearly 700 vitriolic e-mails. This is by far the largest response to anything I've ever written — and I've been doing this since the fellows in KORN were still on the cob." [Read more]
