JOHNNY RAMONE TRIBUTE To Be Held At Hollywood Forever Cemetery

September 17, 2009

The legendary guitarist Johnny Ramone — named one of the "10 greatest electric-guitar players" by Time magazine — of beloved punk group the RAMONES will be honored at a special tribute set for Saturday, October 3 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery (6000 Santa Monica Boulevard) in Los Angeles.

As part of the celebration for the fifth annual Johnny Ramone Tribute, Johnny's wife Linda Ramone and longtime RAMONES affiliate John Cafiero will be joined by original band member Tommy Ramone and CJ Ramone; they will all be on hand for interviews, to meet with fans and sign memorabilia.

"Johnny would have been really excited about this — he loved being Johnny Ramone all day long," explained Linda Ramone. "He would have loved to see RAMONES fans paying tribute to him; as he always said, RAMONES fans are the best fans in the world."

"It is very gratifying to see RAMONES fans gather together for events like this," added Tommy Ramone. "It gives us the opportunity to keep the RAMONES legacy alive and to share special times together."

A special screening of the classic 1977 RAMONES concert film "It's Alive" will be shown against the 24-foot mausoleum wall, followed by a screening of one of Johnny's favorite all-time movies, the 1968 cult horror classic "Night of The Living Dead" — colorized and in 3D (fans will receive a free pair of JRA 3D glasses for the event). There will also be an art gallery featuring original paintings by Dee Dee Ramone and a rare RAMONES memorabilia exhibit as well as surprise celebrity guests.

The special outdoor event is presented by Linda Ramone in association with the Johnny Ramone Army. Proceeds for the event will benefit the Johnny Ramone Research Fund at USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center lead by Dr. David Agus.
